Yeah, yeah I know, it's the 28th of August and I haven't posted anything for a month. Shoot me, I'm a busy man. Not only that, but as I think I've mentioned before, the key to this Journal for it to be useful to me is that I need to be 100% honest and transparent in what I write, and that type of transparency wouldn't have been helpful to me professionally in the last month.
I've been contemplating ending my nearly 14 year career in professional services career, to return to fine art, illustration and visual design, and to get some challenge back in my day. During the last month, I tendered my resignation with the intent of ending my tenure on the 28th of September, giving me enough time to make sure my current clients were taken care of. To my surprise, I was offered the opportunity to continue on in a part-time capacity, focusing on a new project (a recent win, on which I had been proposed as a "prime" or guaranteed resource, that I had to bail on because I knew I was going to be leaving, and since nobody else KNEW I was leaving, you can imagine how complicated that move was). So, bottom line, I'll be able to work three days, create three days, and have Sunday to chill. All without having to spend all the cash I had stashed for the year off.
To all young folk reading this, "luck is when preparation meets opportunity", and this is the exact articulation of this old cliche in the real world. An unplanned, and fortuitous, outcome.
I've started preparations for the end of next month, getting my studio together, pulling together the list of supplies for the first round of drawings, it's like going back to school, without the new clothes!
So, long story short, I'm back online, and looking forward to a bold new direction. Stay tuned. |
